Businesses solve problems.

To find your next big idea, look for problems in the present/future that currently do not have a solution.

  • Look at what problems you have that you can’t find a solution for
  • Look at what families and friends complain about often.
  • Look at what people in your community struggles with but can’t find a solution for
  • Look at what problems you have that has a solution that is too expensive.
  • Look at a specific segment of your community to see what they struggle with daily e.g., elderly people
  • Look at the questions people ask often, but no clear answers are available.
  • Look at what your children need, but you can’t find
  • Look at a challenging time in your life and how you overcame it.
  • Look at Google Trends to see what people searching for
  • Interview customers (who, what, why, why, where, when, how)
  • Read Amazon reviews
  • Look at employer brand reviews.
  • Listen for recurring problems in meetings.

Once you’ve identified the problem, you want to fix.

Conduct research to see if others are experiencing this problem and if they would pay to get the problem resolved.

As Richard Branson said, there is no better reason to start a business than when you are frustrated about a problem you can’t get fixed.
